There are three simple parts to my platform:
1. ONE VISION: Transform the way Senate operates.
No matter what promise is made during campaign season, it will not matter if Senate keeps running the same way it is today. Therefore, the first step will be to create a new culture in Senate: a culture of proactivity, positivity, and production. I will accomplish this by implementing member training, accountability, and instilling purpose.
2. ONE VOICE: Transform the way Senate interacts with the student body.
There are important concerns students have that are not brought up during chamber. This is unacceptable, as Senate is the governing body for the entire student body, not just for some groups. I want to ensure every voice is not only heard, but also genuinely listened to. I want to guarantee that every concern is addressed. One way to do this is by creating an online reservation system where every student can book appointments to meet with their Senator and/or any Student Body Officer at their own convenience.
3. ONE SMU: Transform relations between all groups on campus, bringing them together as one student body.
We are fortunate to have a diverse set of healthy organizations on our campus, yet most groups do not interact with each other as much as they could. While we each have our own individual SMU experiences, I want to create opportunities to have experiences together, bringing out each others’ full potential and enhancing the collegiate experience. To do so, I plan on:
- Starting an All-University Service Day where organizations from different parts of campus would be paired to do a service project in Dallas, both giving back to the community and learning more about each other at the same time.
- Making improvements to the existing student center to improve community now, not just waiting until the new student center is built several years from now. One way to do this is by rearranging offices in Hughes-Trigg to put all student organizations together in order to be able to collaborate.
- Working with administration to increase inclusivity on the Boulevard so everyone has the chance to participate.
